Im so pleased that your son made a good recovery. Your Mum's sudden decline could be a urinary tract infection...it is always worth asking the care home to dip her urine and if positive to get her treatment. Older people go loopy with UTI'S!

Have a happy 2025 xxx

Yes, she has already been treated twice for UTIs but made difficult because she refuses to give samples. On both occasions she showed slight improvement but not much. Unfortunately she has vascular dementia and has good days and bad days.

I hope you are keeping well Moira. Best wishes for a happy 2025 xx

Sarah Moss lives here in Ireland now and writes an excellent column for the Weekend section of the Irish Times. The current one headlined as “There’s a clear difference between those who grew up taking photos of themselves and those of us who didn’t” is related to body image too. How interesting!

Happy 2025

Far less stressful than diets and exercise regimes!

I’ve added the books to my wish list, as they’re intriguing but sadly I have absolutely no need to add more to my ‘to read’ pile. I could actually do with another year purely for reading! I loved Gentleman in Moscow, so I’m going to hunt through our various subscriptions to find it. Thanks for the heads up, and happy knitting new year!

I’m starting to think I won’t live long enough to get through everything I want to read! I think you will enjoy the adaptation of a Gentleman in Moscow. It captures the charm of the book perfectly

Happy New Year!

I wholeheartedly agree with your message not to embark on new exercise or dietary regimes in the cold dark depths of winter.

Sorry to hear of your mum’s decline, but glad she’s in a safe place and being cared for.

I’ll check out The Gentleman in Moscow, our book group read it a year ago and we all enjoyed it.

I also absorbed myself in watching those Christie films and knitting! I'm excited to watch the adaptation of A Gentleman in Moscow (one of my favourite books). And I agree January is not the time for making resolutions. Here's to more knitting, more reading and more good TV! Happy New Year!

I always enjoy reading your posts, often going off to explore something new. You are right, this dark time of year is not a good one for making resolutions, better to take each day as it comes and wait a few weeks until the longer days are with us. Happy New Year!
