What a delightful post, Thankyou for taking your time to share a reminder of how today came about. Like you I’m not a fan of the commercialisation of it all and feel like if I’m to celebrate such a day, I’ll do it when I want to not when the world tells me to do! Having said that I was delighted to receive an email from my travelling son this morning of a picture he had painted for me with a loving poem attached… a little reminder in his own way of what I mean to him 💙
So your tribute to your mum was equally as lovely as you too reflect. Happy Mothering Sunday 🥰
Thank you Mel, that’s very kind. I think a picture and a poem from your son sounds like a precious gift indeed. Much more meaningful than a bunch of supermarket flowers! Xx
What an interesting life your mum has led. It’s so hard to imagine, as you say, the anguish of sending 2 little girls to live with strangers, though the letter your grandmother received must have been a huge reassurance. Sutton Bridge is not far from here and even now is very rural. x
I hit reply halfway through then! We grew up knowing Mum’s stories and didn’t think much of it. Mum stayed in touch with the couple who looked after them and they never left Sutton Bridge
What a lovely post, thank you. My mum would always remind us that it was 'Mothering Sunday, not mothers day' and explain the significance to us. Sadly we lost her at Christmas so this was my first Mothering Sunday without her, but my daughter came up trumps and organised a day out for us both with lunch, art and shopping!
How lovely to read your wonderful tribute to your mum! 💕
My mum was born in 1935, but unfortunately we lost her in 2004 after four years of illness and dementia. We feel blessed to have had her for so long but still miss her every day.
I have had messages from both my boys today and we will have a FaceTime catch up this evening which will be lovely.
It is gloriously sunny today, but not overly warm at 9° with a cool breeze.
Thank you Morag. I think we will always miss our Mums one way or another. I miss who my mum was before her dementia but it was still good to be with her today.
I hope you have a lovely catch up with your boys this evening. It was good to spend a sunny afternoon in Cambridge today with one of my boys. Xx

How wonderful to stay in touch with the couple 😊
I’m thinking that most lives are interesting when we start to examine them but we tend to think of our own lives as commonplace or ordinary

I’m sure that must have been hard to have the first Mothering Sunday without your Mum but it sounds as though your daughter did an excellent job x
