Oh I love this! It's absolutely fantastic, please finish it Gina! Your stool is incredible too, what a beautiful piece of furniture. I am definitely going to try this, maybe not as an embroidery design but just to try the process, it looks such fun. And I enjoyed your history of the kneelers too, a lovely read, Gina, thank you.

Thank you Lindsey. I know I should finish these things… I am so bad at starting something and then abandoning it for the latest new project!

After years of seeing Saffron Walden on the road signs as we drove either north (time strapped) or home (too tired(, we eventually visited 8yrs ago. A sunny March afternoon and perfect for wandering the graveyard after being awed by the church. Tracey Chevalier's A Single Thread was a satisfying read about church kneelers.

As I was reading your post, I remembered reading a book about kneelers. I'm glad you included the title.

Like the idea of the collage as inspiration to start embroidery.

I only remembered reading the book when I saw all the beautiful kneelers in the church

Kneelers seem to be a much underrated art form and recently discovered a wondrous collection in nearby Thelnetahm Church on the Suffolk, Norfolk border. In trying to find a link for you I discovered this website https://parishkneelers.co.uk/ , although the ones I found are sadly not there. I will see if I can find my photo! I loved "A Single Thread" too .
