I would love to be a fashion icon like Iris Apfel (who died this week aged 102) her style was so bright and colourful and happy looking and why not convey the message "hey look how beautiful I am in old age"
In this months embroidery magazine there is an article on Hikaru Noguchi and her creative mending style she has written a couple of books and has another book out in June, so keep that mending kit to hand and ask your son for another moth eaten jumper Gina. I really enjoy reading your weekly writings thankyou.
Thank you Sheralyn. I stopped my subscription to Embroidery magazine a while ago so interesting to hear about Hikaru Noguchi. I'll look her up.
I'm a fan of Iris Arpel's style too and was saddened to hear of her death at the weekend. I painted a portrait of her last year which has turned out to be one of my favourites!
My late mother-in-law, who was 95 when she died, had inherited a lovely aran cardigan, knitted and worn for years by her mother in the 1930's. It had occasionally been sewn up again at the seams, but otherwise was still going strong in 2013 when it was passed on to a relative after mother-in-law died. Unfortunately, it was a very small size so didn't fit me or my daughter.
Very interesting and thought provoking read Gina. I studied fashion at Art College in the '60's and consequently always fancied myself to be a fashionista.

I like it! Unfortunately what is in my head and the reality of what I look like rarely match!
