I loved this book too, the range of characters, the location and the separate but linked lives of Ulysses and Evelyn. I was fortunate to see the author being interviewed by a food writer which was fascinating and very informative. I also started drinking bicicletta cocktails as Ulysses and friends do and loved the summery taste!

It's just fabulous isn't it! We tried to hunt out bicicletta cocktails in Florence but sadly most bars seem to think that all tourists want are Aperol. We finally resorted to Negronis.

I bet that was a great interview to see.

Your description of the book rang a bell - I haven’t read it but I think I heard a couple of episodes when it was serialised on Radio 4. I’ll have to see if I can listen to it all or read the book x

A great description of Still Life, precisely a book that you can't put down but don't want to end. Claude the Parrot also divided our book group. How marvellous to spend time in Florence, - I wonder if it was busier partly due to the book, as it keeps popping up on Instagram etc as favourite books.

It's a fabulous book isn't it! I hadn't thought whether that might make the city busier, although I was listening to a program on radio 4 before we went away that suggested tourism is on the rise generally and some places are started to impose a tourist tax!

I too loved Still Life and faced with a long journey last year, I downloaded the audio book from the library. It too is wonderful and made the miles fly by x Sue
