Love this! I already knit dishcloths and cleaning cloths, but I can see some recycling happening now!

Although I had admired examples of Japanese stitchery, I had no understanding of its origins and found this fascinating. I love the patched jeans and the practicality of zokin cloths - I am now desperately trying to think about what needs strengthening / mending/ given a little poke!

😂 It’s so tempting isn’t it. I’m constantly looking for things I can mend!

Really interesting Gina. I love Sashiko and use it to embellish and or repair patch various pieces. About to use it on the reverse of a patchwork quilt. So versatile. Look at the trend of slow stitching too Suspect that has links 😊

It’s funny but after years of using a machine, more and more I am drawn to the quietness of slow hand stitching. The reverse of your quilt will be fabulous!

Several months ago, during one of my periodic clearouts (for that, read "barely ever"), I found myself with several holey towels. I'd been watching YT videos on Japanese culture and crafts so was inspired to cut the towels up and make zokin! I could never be called a domestic godess and life is too short (and full of interesting things) to spend my days cleaning but there is something very satisfying making and using these cloths.

There is something rather lovely with these cloths isn’t there… I’m all for anything that makes cleaning more enjoyable. It’s never my first choice of activity either!
