How absolutely wonderful, Gina, what a wonderful Nanny you are, Rosie must have been over the moon! I used to love making my son his dressing up outfits for school, looking back I wonder if I took it a little bit too seriously!🤣
You would have whipped the Elmer outfit up in 30minutes on " Great British Sewing Bee". I bet Rosie will remember that elephant outfit for ever - and so will you. :)
I hope so but we never know what memories stay with us do we. At least she’s got a few years growing room to play with it. I have no idea how they sew stuff so quickly on the sewing bee… took me ages! 😂
Absolutely wonderful! Elmer was a favourite in our house, along with the Large Family. I remember painting a charity shop orange silk shirt for a tiger costume - was quite sad to realise it had somewhat disintegrated in the bottom of the dressing up box when I was trying to reduce its' volume for moving. Then realised it was probably last worn 20yrs ago😏
That’s so brilliant Gina - the story - would definitely make a blockbuster children’s book!, the ingenuity - to make your own fabric, which looks absolutely fabulous, and the elephant costume is perfect - what a lucky girl to have such resourceful Nanny!
I think you should make publish this story, it would make a great children’s book, that so many grandparents and parents could relate to. I remember the days of making halloween costumes for years for my children and grandchildren . Certainly brought back happy memories. Thanks Gina, kudos to the resourcefulness of Grandmothers and mothers.
Thank you Marilyn… I often think it would be fun to write a children’s book. There have been many Halloween or world book day costumes over the years… nearly all last minute too!
😂😂😂😂 How delighted (and not a bit surprised) I am to know that "Bonkers runs in your family" . Such a great memory for you all to enjoy and for future generations to hear the story. Thanks for sharing with your readers. It put a smile on my face this morning 😁.

I always loved making the boys their dressing up outfits… definitely serious business! 😂
Wow Gina - I was SO impressed when I saw the costume but doubly so now I've read the full story.
Thank you Ros. It was worth every minute for such a special little granddaughter… we are both so lucky to have her in our lives.
We are!
The result is a triumph!
Thank you!
The things we do for our grandchildren! I would have loved to see the grandparents try out, shame about the photographic evidence!!?
We were laughing way too much to take photos!

Lovely story and so well written. It did make me smile! Great work Nanny G 🥰
Thank you Lynda!
I made an cow costume once for a fancy dress party that turned out to be a 'come as you were' party. How we laughed!
That’s so funny… although maybe not so at the time! I have also made a cow costume for a ‘pantomime’ cow… and a camel too!

I loved the Large family too! I bet the tiger shirt looked fabulous when you made it.
How lucky Rosie is to have such a talented Nanny G!
Thank you Kim… too kind!

I smiled all the way through reading this!!
I always wanted to write and illustrate a children’s book but I’m not sure the ‘Elmer’ publishers would be very happy about this particular story!

😂😂 Nanny G is a marvel! Fabulous story !
Thank you Annie!
Thank you Gina for such a wonderful story. I smiled all the way through. Loved the ending!
It makes me happy to think I have made you smile 😊
This is so wonderful! And love that closing line, "Nanny G politely declined requests..."
😂 I might not have been that polite… I told the first mum it would cost her £500!
